Samsing announced Friday the much-anticipated Galaxy S III phone will be available in this country as of June 27
Samsung has billed itself as the anti-Apple, as you can see in the now-famous Super Bowl television spot for the Galaxy Note below.
The Note seems to be selling well, though I don’t really understand why. I don’t quite get the appeal of a really wide phone, nor can I see any use for a stylus. I thought those died when the last of the Palm Pilots stopped selling.
Now with the Samsung Galaxy S III, the company is taking a cue from Apple and really buying into the hype. And there is a lot of it, backed by real numbers – 9 million pre-orders is impressive. Samsung has put together launch parties in many major cities prior to being launched there. Here in Montreal, a concert will be held on Wednesday, June 20 at the Corona Theatre with the Sam Roberts Band as the main attraction. About 700 people will sell out the venue. Other parties are being planned in Vancouver and Toronto for the same day.
Samsung has also been laying the groundwork by offering previews to select local media. I got a preview this week, and wrote about the phone’s main features here.
